Drug Testing for Students

Mandatory Drug-Testing Program

In an effort to prevent injury, illness, and harm resulting from the use of illegal drugs; help enforce a drug-free educational environment; and deter student use of illegal drugs, KISD has implemented a mandatory drug-testing program for students in grades 7-12.

Covered Activities

Grades 7-12 student activities for which mandatory drug-testing is required include:

  • All extracurricular activities
  • All co-curricular activities
  • All dual credit courses for which KISD pays any amount of tuition
  • All school sponsored work program classes
  • Allowed to purchase an on-campus parking permit

A student in grades 7-12 who chooses to participate in any of these activities shall be subject to mandatory drug testing as outlined in the District’s drug-testing purpose and procedures.

A student who participates in any of these activities shall receive notice of the District’s drug-testing program and procedures in the student handbook. In order to participate in extracurricular and/or co-curricular activities, a student in grades 7-12 shall submit the appropriate written consent form.

The Kilgore ISD drug testing program shall include, but is not limited to, testing for the following:  Amphetamine, Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiates, Meth-Amphetamine, Ecstasy, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Benzoylegogonine, Propoxyphene, Tricyclic Antidepressants.
