KISD Gold Card
History
This program was started on November 15, 1973 by the then Superintendent of Schools, Bill Brantley and approved by the Board of Trustees at the time. It granted access to school activities (other than varsity football) to retired citizens) of the school district for the 1973-1974 school year free of charge. The program has changed over the years to include access to all KISD events, including varsity football, with certain noted exceptions. On October 23, 2017, the Board of Trustees approved amending this program to include Honorably Discharged U.S. Military Veterans and Active Duty Armed Force personnel.
Purpose of the program
To allow Kilgore Independent School District to reach out to individuals within the community and keep our students and the issues of the District in the forefront of their thoughts. As it relates to free admission to extra-curricular events, it is important for our community to see our students in action and show these same students that their efforts for success are supported by many diverse groups. Without this program many of the individuals in this program might have to choose to use potentially limited funds for other purposes. The free annual luncheon would be a great opportunity to share information about KISD and the state of education issues both here and across our great nation with these individuals.
