What is P-TECH:
In June of 2018, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) implemented the new Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools and Industry Cluster and Innovative Academies (P-TECH/ICIA) design Blueprint. Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH) provide students with a seamless path from high school, to post-secondary education, to employment. In a P-TECH Academy, students earn a high school diploma and work credentials, including certifications and licenses, and education credentials, which include educational certificates, diplomas, and degrees. They also engage in work-based education at every grade level, such as internships, apprenticeships, or other forms of job training programs.
A Year of Planning:
In the summer of 2018, TEA authorized Kilgore Independent School District (KISD) to begin the planning process to implement an official P-TECH Academy. During this 2018-2019 school year, many stakeholders have come together and through the assistance of a TEA provided contractor, Educate Texas, much work has been accomplished. Listed below are the outcomes of our initial efforts as we have worked through and continue to work through the P-TECH Blueprint.
