Summer Meal Program

Kilgore Independent School District will serve healthy, nutritious meals for children once again this summer. Bringing healthy summer meals to Kilgore children ensures kids have a healthy vacation and return to school ready to learn. This summer, Kilgore Independent School District will connect children 18 years old and younger with healthy meals at no cost to the child.  The seamless summer program (SSO) is a U. S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered in the Lone Star State by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).  The program is for children who rely on school meals during the academic year to continue receiving these meals when school is not in session.  These meals offer a source of good nutrition during the summer months. “Children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow and succeed in life,” said Jennie Hammerbacher RDN LD, KISD School Nutrition Director.  “With 1 in 5 Texas children struggling with hunger, the summer meal programs can help bridge the gap when children lose access to nutritious meals.”
