MLMS Watch
D.O.G.S. Program
Maude Laird Middle School is the latest
KISD campus to join the Watch D.O.G.S.
(Dads
Of Great Students)
program on October 1st with a pizza
night for
students and fathers and father-figures
of MLMS. At an age where parents
are struggling to connect with their
students, many students were proud to
show up for the pizza dinner with their
fathers, uncles, stepfathers, and
grandfathers. Teachers, administrators
and parents had a chance to spend some
relaxed time with each other before the
students went to the gym for a movie.
The fathers were introduced to
facilitators of the program, counselors
Mrs. Paula Jordan and Ms. Amber Horton,
and the assistant principals for every
grade. The men viewed a film showing the
history of the Watchdog program and how
their presence makes a difference in
their student's life. Fathers were given
the opportunity to volunteer to be on
campus for a day in order to be a good
role model and an extra set of eyes and
ears for the campus. Mr. Jody Sanders,
principal at MLMS, was excited over the
great turnout and the impact fathers can
make on the campus. Counselor Mrs. Paula
Jordan said "It is touching to see so
many men involved with their children.
Times are different from when they went
to school, and these men realize how
important it is to step up and be a part
of their children's education. The
students seem to have such a good time
with their dads around."
