Qualifications
The District shall attempt to hire certified teachers as substitutes whenever possible;
however, no person shall be employed as a substitute teacher who does not have at least a
GED.
Selection
Principals shall give first consideration to the most qualified teachers on the approved
substitute teacher list and shall make effort to place substitutes in their field of
interest or the field in which they are best qualified.
Application
Applications should be submitted from persons wishing to substitute teach in the District.
Applications can be
downloaded here or be obtained at the Administration
building located at 301 N. Kilgore Street, Kilgore, Texas 75662.
Approved substitutes shall have on file with the District:
- The district’s
substitute application form.
- A record of highest education attained, including high school diploma, GED
certificate, or transcript for all college work, and/or teacher certificate.
- A completed I-9 form.
- A completed W-4 form.
- A valid social security number.
- A completed
criminal history record form.
Salary
Substitute pay will be
reviewed annually and determined by the Board of Trustees during the
budget process. Daily rates will be available at the beginning of each
school year by contacting the Human Resources Department or by
visiting the district website.
2007-2008 salary schedule is as follows:
Para-professional positions:
v
Substitute aide/clerical – 60.00 per day
All substitutes regardless of degree/certification will receive $
60.00 a day when
substituting in a paraprofessional position.
Teaching positions:
v
Non degreed/non certified – 60.00 per day
v
Bachelor Degreed non-certified teacher – 70.00 per day
v
Bachelor Degreed/Certified teacher – 80.00 per day
v
Degreed/Certified Long term *(see
statement listed below)– 100.00 per day
Checks are mailed on the 26th day of the month. If the 26th falls on
a weekend, scheduled school break or holiday, checks are mailed on the preceding workday.
Checks will include all substitute days worked the prior month. Individual’s working four
(4) hours or less per day will receive one half-day’s pay. Individual’s working more than
four hours per day will receive a full day’s pay.
All required documents regarding salary, i.e., transcripts, certification etc...must be
received by the Human Resources Department to secure accurate pay is received. Kilgore ISD
will not make salary adjustments on previous payrolls due to failure to provide required
documents.
* If a degreed/certified substitute
teacher works in any one position for more than 10 consecutive days.
Employment Status Changes
Circumstances may change, and you may find you are no longer available to substitute on a
daily basis. Please indicate any change in your availability in writing to
the Human Resources Department at:

Written notification is mandatory prior to the Human Resources Department issuing changes
to an employee’s personal information. This includes changes in name, address and phone
number.
