EMPLOYEE STANDARDS OF CONDUCT
Employees shall be courteous to one
another and the public, working together in a cooperative spirit to serve the best
interests of the District. Employees wishing
to express criticism or professional concerns shall do so through appropriate
administrative procedures or the collaborative process.
Such expressions shall be considered in light of their relation to the
implementation of campus goals and objectives and/or the Districts mission. [See EAB (L) and AE (L)]
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
All employees
shall adhere to District safety rules and regulations and shall report unsafe conditions
or practices to the appropriate supervisor.
TOBACCO
Effective
the 1990-91 school year and thereafter, employees shall not use tobacco products at school
or while in an official capacity at a school-related event.
ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
A copy of this
policy, the purpose of which is to eliminate drug abuse from the workplace, shall be
provided to each employee at the beginning of each year or upon employment.
Employees shall not unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess, use, or be under the influence of any of the following substances during working hours while at school or at school-related activities during or outside of usual working hours.
1. Any controlled substance or dangerous
drug as defined by law, including but not limited to marijuana, any narcotic drug,
hallucinogen, stimulant, depressant, amphetamine, or barbiturate.
2. Alcohol or any alcoholic beverage.
3. Any abusable glue, aerosol paint, or
any other chemical substance for inhalation.
4. Any other intoxicant, or mood-changing,
mind-altering, or behavior-altering drugs.
An employee need not be legally intoxicated to be considered under the influence of a controlled substance.
EXCEPTION
An
employee who uses a drug authorized by a licensed physician through a prescription
specifically for that employees use shall not be considered to have violated this
policy.
NOTICE
Each
employee shall be given a copy of the Districts notice regarding drug-free schools. [See DI (Exhibit)]
DRESS AND GROOMING
Administrative,
professional, and paraprofessional staff are expected to exhibit good taste and
professional judgment in the selection of school apparel.
Extreme fashions are not appropriate. The
staff shall be expected to dress neatly and more formally than students.
The
following guidelines shall apply:
1. Men shall wear dress slacks and sport
shirt or dress shirt with or without coat and/or tie.
2. Female staff shall be expected to wear
dresses or appropriate professional attire.
3. Men teachers may wear short, neat,
trimmed beards.
4. Hair shall be clean and well-groomed.
5. Physical education teachers shall be
allowed to wear coaching or walking shorts or jogging suits while teaching physical
education. No shorts shall be worn outside
physical education class.
6. Teachers may wear jeans on Friday
(Thursday for middle school teachers) provided school colors (red and white) are worn with
jeans.
7. Teachers may wear jeans on workdays.
8. Principals may designate appropriate
dress on days of special events or activities.
9. Shop/agriculture teachers may be
allowed to wear jeans.
10. When jeans are worn they shall be
clean, neat, and pressed.
11. Footwear shall be appropriate (no
thongs).
VIOLATIONS
Employees
shall comply with the standards of conduct set out in this policy and with any other
policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards
attendant to their status as District employees. Violation
of any policies, regulations, and guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including
termination of employment. [See DNC (L) and
