Kilgore ISD – Food Services
2011 - 2012
Charge Policy
Head Start – 12th:
Kilgore ISD has a “No Charge”
policy. If a student forgets to bring their lunch or lunch money,
they may make arrangement with their teacher or principal to contact
the cafeteria manager to be allowed to charge their meal that day.
This privilege is allowed as a courtesy and allowed only as
an exception, not on a regular basis and must be paid back promptly
or “charging privileges” will be terminated. Notices will be sent
home on a weekly basis to advice parents of charges, but it is the
responsibility of the parent or guardian to track their child’s
account. If parents do not respond to notices, they will be
contacted by phone and/or charging privileges will be terminated.
Any student that does not have
charging privileges will be provided a courtesy meal of our choice
and a carton of milk. This courtesy meal will be provided for no
more than three times during a semester period. If a student has no
charging privileges and is no longer eligible to receive a courtesy
meal he/she will be directed to their appropriate school office to
call their parents to request lunch money or a meal.
Menu Planning Option
Kilgore ISD Food Services follows the
“Traditional Food Based Menu Planning” option which requires
specific food group components in specific amounts for specific
age/grade groups. Menus served must meet the nutrient standards, as
well as the meal pattern requirements, but the nutrient analyses of
the menus is not required to be performed at the district level. The
components of our meals are Meat/Meat Alternate, Vegetable, Fruit,
Grains/Breads, and Milk.
Our serving method is “Offer Versus
Serve” Traditional. Offer versus serve is a serving method designed
to reduce food waste and food costs in the school lunch program
without jeopardizing the nutritional integrity of the lunches
served. All five required food items are offered, but a student may
refuse one or two items that he/she does not intend to eat. The
school may not require that certain foods items be
taken. The intent of offer versus serve is to allow students to
refuse food items they do not intend to consume.
Student Accounts
Parents may prepay funds into their
child (ren)’s account. If sending money with a small child, please
place the funds in an envelope and note the child’s name and grade
in order to credit the appropriate account. Payment envelopes are
available upon request for your convenience. Online meal prepayments
are available. It is a program that allows parents to access their
child (ren)’s lunch account via the internet to view their meal
transactions, check account balance or make payments. You may gain
access to “My Nutrikids” by going to the district web site (www.kisd.org)
and following the additional links under the “Parent Resources” tab
or you may go directly to www.MyNutrikids.com. There is a “No Check
Cashing” policy. Checks made out to the school cafeteria will be
fully applied to a student’s lunch account. Meal account balances at
the end of the school year for currently enrolled students will
rollover for the following year. If there is a balance in the
account of a student that has withdrawn or has an inactive status –
the balance will be adjusted to zero if no refund request is
submitted at time of withdrawal.
Returned Checks
Kilgore ISD uses a third party agency
to collect returned checks. Returned checks will be collected
electronically along with the state allowed fee.
