The purpose of the Bilingual Education (BE) / English as a Second Language (ESL) program is to enable the student identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP), including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same challenging State academic content and student achievement standards (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) as all children are expected to meet.
