Glenn Beck is teaming up with Mercury One, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, to seek out exceptional students from across America and support their education goals. They invited high school students at Kilgore High School to participate in a history essay contest on the theme "Before They Were Famous: Abraham Lincoln: The Lawyer." The contest, which is open to all high school students, is designed to encourage high school students to become creative thinkers and writers, expand their knowledge about historical figures who helped shape America (before they became famous) and discover parallels from history that can be applied today. Contestants compete for an opportunity to have their article published on GlennBeck.com and receive up to $5,000 in scholarship funds to support their educational goals.
Two students from Mr. Brian Johnson's US History Class were hand-picked from 19 essay that were submitted for evaluation. The essays were judged on the following criteria based on a point scale system(1-5 points per criterion, maxing out at 30 points): historical accuracy, adherence to the topic, organization of materials, interest, creativity, originality.
Addison P. and Rachel C. will compete head to head for votes on their essays. Want to get involved and help one of these exceptional students succeed?
