About Chandler

Chandler Elementary celebrated its 50th year in 2011.  We currently serve students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.  There are approximately 940 students with 68 certified professional staff members and 28 paraprofessional staff members.  All of our classrooms are equipped with computer stations for students as well as data projectors and ELMOs to enhance instruction.  Our students have access to a computer lab, library media center, gifted and talented programs, music classes, and physical education programs.

 Academic Success

  • 280 students on the all A honor roll for the year

  • 331 students on the A/B honor roll for the year
  •  68 students with perfect attendance for the 2010-2011 school year
  • 71% of our students qualified for early school dismissal for OFYP.
  • 87 % passing rate on 3rd grade Reading TAKS, 35% commended performance
  • 86% passing rate on 3rd grade Math TAKS, 28% commended performance
  • 75% of all 1st and 2nd grade students reading on or above grade level

Parent Involvement

  • Our Watch D.O.G.S. program is in its second year and brought  in 175 volunteer ‘dads’ throughout the year to support their children and our school.
  • Parent programs included: Watch D.O.G.S. pizza night, Meet the Teacher, Fall Open House, Thanksgiving Music Program, Christmas Music Program, Black History Program, Hispanic Heritage Night, Lunch with Grandparents Days, and Parent Appreciation Night.

Opportunities for Students

  • 3rd grade student council raised $1,000 this year in a Valentine’s Fundraiser.  This money was used to purchase incentives and pencils for TAKS, PE equipment, and teacher appreciation treats. 
  • Our school wide fundraiser generated over $20,000 in cookie dough sales which helped to purchase classroom technology and manipulatives for math and reading lessons. 
  • Accelerated reading program included incentives and rewards for students that met their goals each six weeks.
  • Students contributed over 4,000 food items during the Lion’s Club canned food drive.

About KIS

Kilgore Intermediate School was built in 1993 to meet the needs of a growing community. It is currently the home of all 4th and 5th graders in Kilgore ISD. There are 41 certified teachers along with 23 support personnel to serve the 600+ students. Each classroom is equipped with multiple student computers along with data projectors and Elmos. We have two computer labs with 25 workstation in one. Enrichment activities include: Music, computer, Math League, after-school Spanish and Art, and a student leadership team (the M.A.D. team). 

Student

  • Created the M.A.D. Team (Making a Difference).  Student led school and community service organization.

  • Raised over $17,000 in the Jump-A-Thon. Expanded the outdoor community health area with 9 Fitness stations.

  • Collected 3,267 cans during the Loin’s Club food drive.

  • 96.7% attendance rate for the school year. 44 students had perfect attendance for the year. 

Parent

  • Continued in our 3rd consecutive year of the Watch D.O.G.S. program. Over 240 dads participated in our pizza night.

  • Hosted seven parent events throughout the year-Open House, 911 for Parents, two Learning Wheels parent game nights, Student-Success Mini Conference, music programs.

  • Second year of the Latino Family Literacy Project.

  • Weekly SchoolMessenger to parents/guardians for reminders about K.I.S. activities in English and Spanish.

  • Book Fair hosted Lunch with Grandparents, Family Night, Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad. 

Academic Highlights

  • Spelling Bee-School winner placed 3rd in the county Bee.

  • 97 students participated in Math League.

  • Accelerate Reader:  39, 779 books were read for a total of 186,515,366 words.

  • 210 students made the All A or A/B honor roll for the year.

  • 69% of our students qualified for GOOSE (Get Out Of School Early) for OFYP.

  • 83 students qualified for the Duke TIP program with 40 participating.
